A failure before ever being enacted, RIP is having trouble in the Senate. The CBO says 24 million will lose insurance they currently possess. Additionally, the CBO says ObamaCare is NOT imploding, contrary to Republican talking points. These are interesting times.

Interesting times, indeed. I think we could do a whole lot better with a single payer healthcare system similar to what Taiwan or Canada is doing. Such a system may need some tweaking here and there, but it would lead to coverage for pretty much everyone if the costs of the insurance companies could be excluded. While I hate the thought of paying for the results of other people's stupid decisions, we are already doing that now along with the cost of insurance providers.
Just my 2 cents and I'm sure others would disagree tired

Single-payer healthcare?

Isn't that what the Present promised when he told the Washington Post "We're going to have insurance for everybody"?

It will take a while, but I suspect, hopefully in our lifetime, America will join the rest (most) of the industrialized world and have single payer, universal healthcare. But, then we still lead the industrialized world in the percentage of believers in angels, so I'll not be holding my breath.

Yes, the government does a lot of things poorly. I don't want the government in charge of our healthcare. I want our doctors in charge of our healthcare, and just want the single payer to pay the bills forwarded directly from those who provided the actual healthcare services. No healthcare insurance middlemen needed. Why wouldn't that work?

I read somewhere there is good, there is fast and there is cheap, and with healthcare you can only have two out of these three possibilities:
1)good and fast but not cheap
2)Good and cheap but not fast
3)Cheap and fast but not good

Ikayak, for some reason I believe you and/or your husband are somehow directly involved in providing healthcare locally. If this is correct, I'd love to hear what you have to suggest regarding how you would like to see healthcare should be handled in this country, and what would need to change to make your suggestion(s) happen. Even if my assumption is incorrect, I'd still like to see what you have to say about this subject.
