Does it really make any sense to tip based on cost of a meal? It seems to me the actual work performed is the same whether that meal is a sandwich and fries totaling $15 or a steak dinner totaling $30. It takes pretty much the same effort on the part of the waiter/waitress for both meals, so why should we pay twice the tip for the higher priced meal? There must be a better way to handle this. Suggestions?

No replies so far, so how about this?

Pay all employees a fair salary, establish menu prices accordingly, establish a no tipping policy.

Pay a fair salary, costs are passed on to customers, food costs too much, no more of those pesky customers.
